Something for everyone
Title:  Something for everyone
Description:  You see some movement off by the distant horizon, catch a glimpse of a headlight, see a consist snaking down onto the high plains and then it disappears. A short while later the locomotive pokes over the swell in the landscape and bears down upon your vantage point. This eastbound manifest at Diablo may not have a KCS Belle, but the current-day "big four" are represented in this wild power consist.

Description:  Mid-afternoons have had some lengthy lulls lately. I waited at the Route 30 overpass for awhile, then rode east into Iowa looking for a train. This fellow had left Missouri Valley and I caught it crossing the Missouri, then scooted back out to the overpass west of Kennard to catch it at this nice vantage point. Things are looking more green. About time!

Description:  BNSF 4865 snarls past the BNSF depot in Fremont, NE. Few are the remaining depots from the passenger train era - when one could find a comfortable accommodation on a bench or fence railing and watch the activity - the Rwy. Express and mail carts, the operator/agent at his desk with flimsies, order hoops and lanterns, ticket stamps; all of the hustle and bustle that accompanied passenger train movements and the nature of railroading as it once was.

Description:  I was goofing off, sipping coffee and enjoying the exhilarating Montana air while packing the bike in the morning when this outfit came rambling through the pines west of Essex. There was an MW gang waiting to get on after Amtrak so I hurriedly packed and headed east on US 2, hoping the train would stop for helpers at Essex. It did, thus allowing me to follow the train up Marias Pass. Here BNSF 756, decidedly outside of traditional warbonnet territory, is resplendent amongst the tall pines.
